BPRC’s California Building Power Network members gathered in early August to tour working-class homes and community centers in San Francisco’s Mission District that are at the forefront of the transition to all-electric buildings, thanks to the Healthy Resilient Homes campaign.

This Sunday marked the 4th anniversary of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest investment in climate and energy in U.S. history. Despite Trump’s destructive federal agenda, local and state government leaders and power-building groups are proving that: 1) some federal dollars are still flowing, and 2) building clean energy infrastructure and electrifying our homes and schools is a win-win on both climate and affordability.

This year, we received 30 applications from community organizations, unions, and local governments, and we accepted 26 partners working in 13 states plus Washington, D.C. The promise of school decarbonization is compelling, but do these projects actually save money? BPRC’s new report, "Cleaner Air and Lower Costs: How State Investments in School Decarbonization Save Taxpayer Dollars," written by David Eichenthal, looks beyond projections to examine what actually happened to the bottom line after the projects were completed.

We knew the fate of the Inflation Reduction Act and the clean energy industry faced an uphill battle, but the political reality of 2025 turned out to be more challenging than many of us anticipated. Despite this difficult terrain, BPRC’s partners continued to implement signature projects, win significant policy commitments, deepen co-governing relationships, grow their bases, and shape the narrative around energy, affordability, and healthy communities. 

At NY Climate Week 2025, BPRC organized two panel discussions that showcased how community groups and local governments are providing real leadership, despite uncertainties and federal disinvestment.
